We’re looking for a talented platform engineer who can help us build a set of next-generation web services that will enable us to reliably interface with a multitude of mobile devices and scale the system quickly.
Description:    
The successful candidate will be responsible for a broad array of individual services, with responsibilities that include the following:
  • Design templates, stylesheets, and XML components
  • Build semantic markup that is extensible and maintainable
  • Help conduct UX research to hone product performance as seen through the lens of its users
  • Work in a nimble, cross-language environment that uses cutting-edge tools to bring the product vision to life.
  • Manage the lifecycle of the components for which you’re responsible in a test-driven environment
  • Design and build rich web applications for the desktop and for mobile devices
  • Troubleshoot and quickly resolve system, network, and application problems as necessary
Requirements:
Skills and Experience:
  • Strong fundamentals in software engineering and computer science
  • Demonstrated skill in making JavaScript do all the things it wasn’t designed to do
  • Experience with modern web technologies like HTML5, CSS3, JS, SVG, OpenGL ES, etc.
  • Comfortable working in a broad array of languages, including Python, Java and Scala
  • Deep familiarity with the components of cloud-based services, including caching, database architecture, API design, queueing services, etc.
  • Very strong experience with back-end technologies: for fun, you design scalable horizontal data partitioning methods in both Scala and Erlang, just to see which yields a more robust application
  • Good graphic design, typography, and information design skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Effective communication and documentation skills
  • Comfort with ambiguity; the ability to start with a blank slate and create something stunning from scratch
  • Humility and a genuinely collaborative attitude, receptivity to feedback and enthusiasm for an iterative design process that incorporates multiple points of view

Duties and Responsibilities
To provide clinical supervision to intern, registrar, and resident physicians in the unit
To set performance targets for interns, registrar, and resident physicians in the unit
To monitor and evaluate all aspects of intern and registrar physician job performance
To monitor and evaluate clinical performance of resident physicians
To oversee staff and operations in the Emergency Medicine Department operating theatre
To oversee the evaluation and triage of urgent cases to the Emergency Medicine Department operating theatre
To assist in the development and implementation of clinical protocols for use in the Emergency Medicine Department and the EMD operating theatre
To supervise patients case presentations and participate in other staff training activities, which may include didactic presentations, workshops, and daily clinical rounds.

Required Qualifications
Holder of three or more years Postgraduate degree (M.Med) in either Surgery or Anesthesia (Candidates holding M. Med degrees in other fields registered with the Medical Council of Tanganyika may apply if they have at least 3 years of critical care, casualty, or emergency unit clinical experience).
Must have worked as a specialist Medical Doctor for not less than 4 years
Must have published not less than two research papers in area of specialization, one as the principal author

Summary:
The Medical Officer’s role is to develop and co-ordinate the implementation of clinical research in Reproductive health in KDH. Research training is embedded into the clinical fellowship post.
The Kemri-Wellcome Trust Programme at the Centre for Geographical Medicine Research-Coast (CGMRC) and Kilifi District Hospital Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology are jointly running research studies of maternal and perinatal health, centrally based in the maternity department at Kilifi District Hospital, but with studies also running in peripheral sites.
The study involves collection of clinical data and samples for all admissions and deliveries, and more detailed studies of infection and fetal growth on a proportion of mothers.
The study integrates with existing surveillance studies of paediatric disease and invasive infections in Kilifi.
The KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Programme is well known internationally for its work tackling malaria and other infectious diseases, particularly bacterial and viral childhood infections.
It conducts basic, epidemiological and clinical research in parallel, with results feeding directly into local and international health policy, and aims to expand the country’s capacity to conduct multidisciplinary research that is strong, sustainable and internationally competitive.

Reporting Lines:
The post holder will report to the respective study PIs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the study, liasing with hospital obstetrician, clinical staff, nurses, field workers, laboratory staff, and IT services.
  • Supervise fieldworkers and other staff involved in the project.
  • Oversee nurse locums with and coordinate with the nursing supervisors
  • Quality control: Ensure high quality data collection through regular confirmation that each patient admitted has a complete record, fully entered onto the clinical database.
  • Assist in coordination of and training within the maternity unit for study staff, interns and nurses
  • Develop and follow standardised operating procedures (SOPs) for study procedures in maternity
  • Liaise with laboratory services to ensure  investigations are carried out for study and clinical care and results returned and entered on the database
  • Collaborate with the maternity department in the production and implementation of standardised definitions and clinical guidelines
  • Partake in an on call rota for the collection of research samples out of hours
  • Work with the KEMRI-MOH liaison officer to ensure the continued smooth running of the study.
  • Participate in the clinical care of patients, which may include on call duties.
  • Any other duties that may be required by the study or clinical team
Skills and Competence:
Essential Qualifications:
  • Degree in Medicine and Surgery
  • Registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
  • Ability to lead and work within in a team.
  • Use of Windows, Microsoft Office software
Preferable:
  • Demonstrable interest and experience in maternal-perinatal health
  • Previous research experience in maternal or child health
  • Demonstrable excellent communication and supervisory skills
  • Demonstrable excellent organizational skills.
